Welcome to Downton

Well Pebbles now has her own pasture and she lolls about in it like a princess whenever the sun comes out for a few minutes. When the rain starts Pebbles gives a little bleat of indignation and her ladies' maid rushes out to escort her back to the barn aisle, where she lives with Kermit, Tito, and her best friend Ivy during the rainy parts of the days. Every few hours Lady Pebbles gives a summons and the ladies' maid scurries in to give her a back massage.

"Lady Ivy, would you care for a back massage?" she asks Ivy.

"Trains," says Lady Ivy, monosyllabic as ever.

"That means 'not just now,' "  Pebbles translates for everyone. " 'Perhaps later, when we return from London after the Goat Ball.' "

"Goat Ball?" echoes Pinky.

Steam shoots out of Eo(played by Maggie Smith)'s ears.

I have a SERIOUS question (so why would I ask it here?) Anyway, we have a lovely 2 year old Nubian doe that cost us way too much not to ever get settled!! So, is 3 years old the magic number? She is not a hermie and we have never seen any signs of heat (chasing the boy, hollering, mounting anything that stands still)The vet (as usual) thinks that goat reproductive systems are odd and unpredictable...so much for that. Any help appreciated.

*****IMPORTANT*****
THIS MESSAGE CONTAINS SUGGESTED NAMES FOR PEBBLES' BABIES!!!!

Dear Millie, Goat Farmer, and fellow blog followers,
After much thought I would like to propose the following names for Pebbles imperiously elegant soon-to-be-babies. Please ponder them and comment on them if any are to your liking. All final judgments will be made by the official goat naming department at Herron Hill Dairy which might not select any of these names in which case I will have to put on my big girl panties and get over it though that will be easier said than done. As with my own goats, I suggest all official baby naming be withheld until the kids are born and we can see their coloration and personality not to mention their gender. Now I don't quite understand the formalities of the registration requirements as in Pebbles being officially called Herron Hill E J Pendleton, so goat farmer, you will have to fix the names to meet requirements if you like any of them. I did my best to include the sire and/or dam's names or essence of their names as well as including within each name an E word which means some of these names don't make good sense as I am unclear as to whether the registered name has to begin with E or just the nickname, really I don't think I'm much up to this task as I am getting very confused and perhaps I should just go back to representing Crumpet here in the midwest as all I have to do for that is wear the t-shirt. Whew! Names marked with ** are some of my favorites. Without further ado:

Pebbles' Chaotic Earthquake (Quaker--uhoh, you already have that nickname being used by Ivy, though Ivy is really a nickname for her real name I.B. which isn't her real name either, oh forget it, you know what I mean.)

**Pebbles' Eye Candy (Candy)

**Pebbles' Imperious Elegance (Ellie)

Pebbles' Electric BamBam

Pebbles' Euphoric Chaos

Pebbles' Emotional Chaos (Emmie)

Pebbles' Extraordinarily Charming Chaos (Charmer)

Earl of Chaos

Pebbles' Endearing Pandemonium (Dearie)

Pebbles' Elegant Elixir (Ellie)

Pebbles' Excellent Highfalutin' Rebel

Chaos' Elegant Mayhem

**Pebbles' Easy Does It

**Pebbles' Encore

Pebbles' Chaotic Encore

Pebbles' Enough Already

Pebbles' Eureka

Pebbles' Elementary My Dear

**Pebbles' Easy Does It

PS--Just so you know, my own goats have very easy names like Whitey, Blackie, Brownie. They do not have fancy dancy hard to say names. Simple names are more to my liking. If Pebbles has triplet does (oh, joy!!!) might they be called 1, 2, and 3? or Shirley, Goodness and Mercy? I know, I know. They have to begin with E. Well, what are your suggestions?

I like all the names. In fact,in the future you may name all the goats that are born at our place. My favorite is The Electric Bam Bam one...exactly what the son of Chaos should be named...

Hmm, lots of information pouring in. We will have to mull over these names, some good ones here.

As far as the 2 yo who doesn't come into heat, you might run a blood panel to see if her minerals are all good, good copper levels etc. Sometimes does don't really come into a noticeable heat if there is no buck around, but it sounds like you have a gentleman handy.

Thank you, goat farmer. She was with one of our bucks who, by the way, has now produced 6 doelings and 2 bucklings out of 3 other does this year, from Sept 1 until Jan. 28th when kidding started. Sigh. I guess she could be the only doe who is "short" on minerals...they do have free choice loose mineral available at all times. I will contact the vet about the blood panel...it can't hurt!

You might also try the CIDR procedure if nothing else works -- (just google cidr use in goats, people use it very effectively for out of season breeding or breeding which must be timed exactly - ai or traveling to be bred or similar). And then if that doesn't work I would contact the breeder and let them know all the things you have done, any good breeder who has sold you a papered goat for breeding purposes will refund or replace an infertile animal. The breeder would also want to know that.

Thanks again! The breeder is very reputable and has already volunteered to replace her...not going to be easy to do! She is a doll and very much loved...we may just keep her and let it go even if we cannot get her bred...

goatfarmer said...

Good for you! I say just keep her! Probably the only way to get her bred is to stop trying.

LOL! yep. I'll let you know when and if...thanks again.
