V.I.G.

Well today it is freezing and going to stay freezing for the next week which I personally don't care for. It isn't the worst thing that could happen but it isn't something that I personally care for. Of everyone who hates the cold, though, Fred is probably the worst. He does not even like his feet to touch the ground when it is this cold. Today he is headbobbing around like a Tennessee Walker, yanking his feet up knee-high every time they touch the ground. You would think he would get used to it after a few steps but no, every step is a horrible shock to him.

Anyway as far as Winnie Eo knew right away what would happen.

"Oh no," she said when the farmer started musing about Winnie, the plight of poor Winnie, a big shot growing depressed without underlings, and before you can say snapchat Winnie got moved out of the big milker pasture and in with Betty and Betty's ragtag army of half-pints and yearlings, a motley crew which includes four babies, Isabel the newcomer, Sandy the Screamer, Clara Belle the dingaling, Clover who does't have a "the" yet, and sometimes Licorice who comes and goes as she pleases. All Nigerians.

Winnie brightened immediately and swaggered over to a corner of the Betty area where she made herself a king-sized bed in the straw and starting delivering ultimatums. No one comes inside this triangle, no one touches the food on the tray until I have had my pick, this end of the hay feeder is off-limits, it is a V.I.G.* area only for me, and also for my guests if I ever have any but I am not planning on it, and no one shall touch the farmer or make eye contact with the farmer, the farmer is mine, etc. It was all very Kramer-at-the-dojo.

Eo of course was pleased because she had thought Winnie would be coming to our small neck of the woods. But the Betty enclave is an even smaller pond, and Winnie is now the CEO. It just goes to show - anyone can be a big fish. You just have to find a small enough pond.

It was a delightful day at my house when my drab brown TMFGITW shirt arrived! To my surprise, the shirt is not drab brown, it is a rather rich brown, very pretty, and I feel I owe more for the shirt than I paid. So, goatfarmer, you and Crumpet talk it over and let me know how much more I owe you. True to the cause, I have worn it every single day for the past 5 days. My husband said last night "Why are you wearing that shirt again today?" I patiently explained (again) that I am the President of the Missouri Chapter of TMFGITW Cause (and quite possibly the Arkansas Chapter, I have not heard from TMFGITW headquarters for certain on that matter, of which I would gladly take on the mantle should it be bestowed upon me) and I am doing my best to advertise for Crumpet. He said "But you haven't been out of the house for the past 5 days due to the snow and your school is cancelled again for tomorrow." I said that is not true because I have been to the barn many times and all my goats are well versed in the purpose of the shirt and every time I walk in they think of Crumpet. So, Crumpet, please know I am working hard for you and when the snow melts away sometime in the spring and I get back out in the larger world I will continue to champion the cause.

I got my wonderful TMFGITW t-shirt, too! It is EXCELLENT! The dull blue is not very dull, either. It's very deep blue.

I am going to take photos of myself showing it off in public, spreading the word of Crumpet's fame, and then I'll post those photos somewhere on the internet, maybe just Facebook, maybe a blog of some sort. Hooray!

Excellent Jessica! You are the President of TMFGITW New York Chapter! Use your power for good!

"Ah-ha!" my husband squealed this morning, "You do not have that brown goat shirt on today!"

"Oh, of course I do," I said, lifting up my sweatshirt to reveal Crumpet's t-shirt underneath.

"But it's not showing." he gloated.

"It's a new rule I made up," I said. "I can do that as President of the Missouri and Arkansas Chapters of TMFGITW. I can make up rules and this rule is if it is sub-zero temperatures outside a member can cover up the shirt with layers of other clothes as long as he or she is willing to whip off the outer clothing revealing their member shirt if somebody should be brave enough to travel the roads to come find him or her at their goat barn where they will surely be most of the time. I'm the president, I can make up rules."

"Hmmm," he replied seemingly unimpressed.

"You know, I've been thinking. I know there has been a President appointed for New York State--she has a blue shirt--but what about Illinois and Kansas and Oklahoma and Iowa? Maybe I could become president of those states, too, you know Midwest President of TMFGITW."

"Now you are getting greedy."

"Well, OK, I'll drop Iowa. But I'm gonna ask about those other states. It's important someone take charge for Crumpet's sake."

But he didn't hear me as he had lumbered off to the basement to try to fix the hole where the endless stream of mice is coming in.

Well, the Barn Mistress and her dingy green shirt have surely got Tennessee covered. And since the humans here were born/raised in such places as Scotland, Ireland, England and France, I guess we could nominate them as the presidents/présidents not only for the Southeastern US, but also for the United Kingdom and Northern European Nations. Go global Crumpet, go global.

Hi - I may have missed it - how do I order my goat t-shirt? To whom do I make the check and where do I send it? I imagine there will be many people wearing it this season and I want to be in style.

Yang said...

Ahem! Er...Excuse me! I should have spoken up sooner but I and my luxurious brown Crumpet tee sheet nominate myself for the Oklahoma chapter. Thank you for your goatly consideration...

Hi Karen - we still have a few shirts (no more 2xl and no more blue m) and you can order one at

http://www.herronhilldairy.com/goats/the-crumpet-project

or just go to herronhilldairy.com and then go to the crumpet project.

Or if that is too much trouble you can just email what color and size you want and if we have it I will send you a shirt.

send your email to herronhillATgmail.com

Excellent Yang, which town are you in again so we can add your presidency to our TMFGITW global headquarters and regional offices map?

I'm in Wakita, OK - infamous for the filming of Twister and my goats, of course. A tiny flag, no a miniscule flag, will suffice for Wakita. And I didn't get a Crumpet tee sheet, I got a Crumpet tee shirt. I hate when the goats try to type for me and I wouldn't want the GF to be inundated with orders for Crumpet sheets.

Hi Crumpet: My name is Bailey; I'm a Guernsey breed up. My mom won't take her t-shirt off either, and uses the spare one (a present from the President of OK) as a chair back cover so she can see it all the time. Weird! I would like to nominate her to be the president of KS. We live high on a hill, and are in a great location to watch over all those here. Our address says South Haven, but we really live east of Rome. I hope you consider my nomination. We are looking forward to a picture of you, so it can be hung in the barn for us to see during our goal-setting sessions while we are on the milk stand. Thank you. Bailey.

Crumpet: TY for letting my wonderful herdslady promote you in KS! How did you know about the geese? I run really fast when they all fly over in that darn V! Quite the noisemakers . . . even louder the Sophie, our own personal Terror, though she is a pyr/wolfhound mix. She's always getting into our business! I digress! We will and are promoting your projects. Either me or my sister will be going to the Kansas State Fair next fall, and we will take your information with us. Hope you got a lot of licorice treats today! I did! Bailey
